Evgeny V. Shlyakhto is Russian physician and cardiologists, one of the leading scientists of the country in the field of clinical medicine. Нe contributed notably into research in diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and also theoretical and practical organizational issues of specialized and high-tech medical care delivery.

     Professor E.V. Shlyakhto was born in 1954 year. He graduated from the1^st LeningradPavlov Medical Institute in 1977. Doctor (1992), Professor (1994), Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation (2004), RAMS corresponding member (2004), RAMS academician (2011), laureate of Saint-Petersburg Government Prize and Saint-Petersburg Scientific Center of Russian Academy of Sciences for scientific and technological achievement in nomination “Psychology and Medicine” I.P. Pavlov award (2011), laureate  of VI Annual National Award “Publicity” in nomination “Health” (2011). Awarded with the Certificate of Merit of the Government of Russian Federation for substantial contribution into healthcare development and longstanding and fruitful work (2009). 

     
    Evgeny V. Shlyakhto is highly experienced in management of large educational and medical institutions. From 1994 to 2001 he was Vice-rector of Saint-Petersburg Pavlov State Medical University. In 1997 he became the head of the Faculty therapy department of the same University. Since 2001 Professor Shlyakhto was Chief cardiologist of Saint-Petersburg, and since 2002 he is the Chief cardiologist of the North-West Federal District.

    Since 2001 Evgeny V. Shlyakhto heads Almazov Federal Centre which is one of the leading medical institutions in Russia realizing fundamental and applied research in the fields of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, haematology, rheumatology, endocrinology, pediatrics, molecular biology and genetics, information nanotechnology. Almazov Centre provides specialized and high-tech medical care and also training of scientific and medical personnel within modern system of continuous medical education.

     Being Director of Almazov Federal Centre Professor Evgeny Shlyakhto actively supports the realization of National Priority Project “Health”, Demographic Policy Concept of the Russian Federation and Healthcare Development Concept in the fields of new medical technologies in blood, cardiovascular and endocrine diseases prevention, diagnosis and  treatment, enhancement of high-tech medical care delivery to the citizens of the Russian Federation. 

     E.V. Shlyakhto is an acknowledged academic authority contributing into science development, academic and teaching staff training. He is the founder of a scientific school known in Russia and abroad for tradition continuity, team creation of associates, interdisciplinary approach to integrated solution of current scientific issues. His disciples presented 19 doctorate and 56 PhD theses under his guidance. 

     The results of Professor’s E.V. Shlyakhto research in cardiovascular diseases diagnosis and treatment are summarized in more then 450 publications, 16 inventions, 2 patented scientific discoveries, and number of monographs and manuals for high medical schools. Some of them are: “Borderline Arterial Hypertension” (1992), “Kidney and Arterial Hypertension” (1999), “Metabolic Cardiovascular Syndrome” (1999), “Hypertensive Disease” (2001), “Autonomic Nervous System and Arterial Hypertension” (2008), “Cardiovascular Remodeling in Arterial Hypertension” (2009), “Baroreflex and long-term control of arterial pressure” (2011), texbooks “Circulatory System Diseases” (1997), “Endocrinology” (2005, 2^nd edition – 2007), “Internal Medicine” (2000, 2008). “The ESC Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine. Second Edition” was translated into Russian in 2010 by Professor’s Shlyakhto initiative and under his editorship.

    In 2010 E.V. Shlyakhto and his colleagues became laureates of the Russian Federation Government Prize in science and technology for “Research in Diagnosis, Treatment and Rehabilitation in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure in Russian Federation”.

     Professor Evgeny V. Shlyakhto participates in organization of Continuous Medical Education in different disciplines to improve the amount and quality of high-tech medical care. He initiated the creation of multidisciplinary clinical and educational complex providing fast implementation of innovative treatment technologies into practice.

    In 2010 first heart transplantation was performed successfully in Almazov Federal Centre.

    Evgeny V. Shlyakhto pays much attention to social, scientific and organizational work aimed at maintaining of prestige of Russian medical science. Being the President of the Society of Cardiology of the Russian Federation, member of Bureau of Clinical Medicine Department of Russian Academy of Medical Science, Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, member of International Society of Hypertension and American Heart Association, main editor of “Arterial Hypertension” and “Arrhythmology Newsletter” journals, member of a number of editorial boards of Russian and foreign cardiological journals he provides cooperation between Russian and foreign scientific societies.
