Evgeny Vladimirovich Shlyakhto

   Federal Almazov Heart, Blood and Endocrinology Centre director. Was born in 1954. Graduated 1st medical university of Leningrad n.a. I.P.Pavlov. Doctor of medical sciences (1992), professor (1994), honored MD of  the Russian Federation (2004), corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (2004).

   E.V.Shlyakhto is a headliner and initiator of medical science and health care. From 1994 till 2001 hold the position of scientific work prorector in Saint- Petersburg 1st medical university n.a. I.P.Pavlov. Since 1997 chairman of Faculty therapy department in Saint- Petersburg 1st medical university n.a. I.P.Pavlov. Since 2001 the director of Scientific research institute of cardiology n.a. Almazov (since 2006- FSI “Federal Almazov Heart, Blood and Endocrinology Centre”), saint- Petersburg head cardiologist (since 2001), Head cardiologist in the North -West federal district of the Russian Federation (since 2002).
    E.V.Shlyakhto is one of the leading scientists in the field of clinical cardiology who made a great contribution to pathogenesis researches and new diagnostic methods development and treatment of heart and vessels diseases, in decision of theoretic and practical problems of high tech medical aid organization.
    The results of numerous researches of E.V.Shlyakhto in the field of cardiovascular diseases treatment are summarized in more than 400 published works, 6 inventions and 1 finding, monographies and university textbooks: “Border-line arterial hypertension” (1992), “Nephros and arterial hypertension”(1999), "Metabolic cardiovascular syndrome" (1999), "Hypertensive disease" (2001), «Vegetative nervous system and arterial hypertension» (2008), "Circulatory diseases" (1997), «Endocrinology» (2005, the 2nd issue - 2007), "Internal diseases" (2000, 2008).
    In recent years E.V.Shlyakhto’s priority activity directions are the detection system development of the patients with high risk factors combination, new methods of population health monitoring in organized and disorganized groups. He is an initiator and director of the scientific committee “National research in cardiovascular malformations prevention among patients with arterial hypertension and adiposis” carried out in 30 regions of the Russian Federation.
    The newest directions of  E.V.Shlyakhto’s activities are nanotechnologies and nanomaterials researches meant for new medical technologies innovation development in scientific support of high tech medical aid to the patients with cardiovascular, endocrinological and hematological diseases. The result of these elaborations is the book “Nanotechnologies in biology and medicine” (2009).
    E.V.Shlyakhto is a known scientific authority in theoretical and practical medicine who made a great contribution in science development, academic and teaching staff training. He founded the scientific school popular in the Russian federation and abroad which hallmark is an interdisciplinary approach to actual scientific and practical cardiological problems complex decision. 46 master’s  and 14 doctoral dissertations were defended by the pupils under his guidance .
    E.V. Shlyakhto pays much attention to public- scientific and organizational- methodological work: he is a vice- president of All- Russian scientific society of cardiology, chairman of Saint- Petersburg scientific society of cardiology n.a. G.F.Lang, chief editor of “Arterial hypertension”  and “Arrhythmology newsletter” journals and takes part in editorial boards of many Russian and foreign journals.  
    E.V.Shlyakhto is an initiator and organizing committee co-chairman of many cardiology forums: Russian national cardiology congress (2002), Congress of CIS countries cardiology association  (2003), International congress «Arterial hypertension – from Korotkov to nowadays» (2005, 2009), International symposium "Central nervous system and blood circulation organs" (2006), Russian  academic and research conference with international participation "Non- coronary myocardial infarction: diagnostics, treatment, prevention problems" (2006, 2008), "Acute coronary syndrome: development mechanisms and modern therapeutic approach" (2007),  «High tech methods of diagnostic and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and endocrinopathy»(2007,2008,2009) taking place in Saint- Petersburg.
    The activity of E.V.Shlyakhto as Federal Almazov Heart, Blood and Endocrinology Centre director is focused on Priority national healthcare project realization in the sphere of new high tech medical technologies in prevention, diagnostic and treatment of cardiovascular, hematological and endocrinologic diseases and high tech cardiological and cardiovascular aid delivery.
    Under the guidance of E.V.Shlyakhto and according to the Commission of the President of the Russian Federation №349 from 06.02.2001 the construction of a new inpatient and outpatient complex came to an end.  Its characteristics correspond to the best worldwide standards and allow to improve availability of high tech cardiological and cardiovascular medical aid that gives an opportunity to carry out more than 4500 cardiopulmonary bypass surgeries per year; increase the amount of endovascular aggressions with stenting to 4000 per year; implant 4000 cardio stimulators per year; carry out not less than 3000 aggressions within rhythm disturbance; treat more than 10 000 patients in inpatient complex per year; deliver tertiary healthcare to more than 100 000 patients per year; 20% of all medical care will be devoted to the treatment of child inherent and acquired cardiovascular diseases.
    According the Government order № 1743-r (December 4, 2007) about Federal Perinatal Centers  Almazov Heart, Blood and Endocrinology Centre began the construction of Perinatal Centre.
