North-West’s first Specialized Perinatal Centre of Almazov Federal Centre turned one year on 1 November 2011.  

     The work of Perinatal Centre as part of Almazov Federal Centre serves as a fine example of work integration of pediatricians, obstetrician-gynecologists, cardiologists, endocrinologists, hematologists, and cardiac surgeons aimed at performing surgical interventions in newborns with congenital developmental malformations in pre-and neonatal periods as well as planning and pregnancy management in women with cardiovascular and endocrine diseases, choice of delivery mode, and high-tech medical care delivery.

     An integrated infrastructure of the multidisciplinary in-patient unit implements immediate correction of developmental malformations directly after delivery that enables to refuse from newborns transportation to other specialized medical institutions.

    At present more then 2300 deliveries were taken in Perinatal Centre taking into account that 1948 were the patients with burdened obstetric and gynecological anamnesis and extragenital pathology that is the target patients of Perinatal Centre. Within the year 2405 children were given birth, including 83 operated in the first days of life due to congenital developmental malformations. More than 12800 consultancies were given in the consulting and diagnostic centre.

     Scientific maintenance of high-tech medical technologies creation and implementation is led by the Institute of Perinatology and Pediatrics. 5 monographies were written, 3 conferences were carried out and 26 articles were written in the foreign journals by the Institute personnel.

 

     Foundation of the fully equipped simulation centre has played a key role in Perinatal Centre life. Currently 25 simulators (maternity patients and newborns) with modern data base are at Perinatal Centre disposal that allow to create realistic cases, master manual skills and management in obstetrics and reanimation care delivery to the newborns, and choose the right approach in emergency cases.

  

     The main feature of a successful Perinatal Centre work is its team that has significant expertise to make everything possible and necessary for the new birth.
