20th Meeting of the European Society of Hypertension, June 18- 21, 2010

     Dear Friends and colleagues,

We glad to have pleasure to inform you about the 20th Scientific Meeting of the European Society of Hypertension taking in Oslo, Norway, June 18- 21, 2010 completion.

Hypertension remains the leading cause of mortality and the third largest cause of disability. The prevention of hypertension-related complications is, and will always remain, the primary focus of our society. The ESH meetings have always sought ways to assist physicians in better and more effective methods of hypertension management.

As in past events, the program of the Oslo meeting consisted of original research with oral and poster presentations, a broad range of clinical and experimental research papers presented in numerous state-of-the-art lectures, plenary sessions, teaching seminars, debates and integrated sessions for ESH working groups. In addition, several joint sessions were scheduled to facilitate the cooperation with other scientific societies.

Almazov Federal Heart, Blood and Endocrinology Centre working group results were demonstrated with poster presentations (E. Karelkina, O. Irtuga, L. Korostovtseva, O. Rotar, I. Emelyanov) and oral presentations at parallel session on June, 20 (A. Konrady “Marinibufagenin- induced sodium pump inhibition associates with pressor response to mild salt loadining in patients with resistant hypertension”).

The seminar on Myocardial protection in the field of arterial hypertension and other cardio vascular pathology performed by Almazov Federal Centre on June, 21, 2010 aroused much scientific interest. The seminar chairmen were Professor E. Shlyakhto (Russia) and  Professor J. Vaage (Norway).

Among speakers were researchers from different countries - J. Vaage (Norway), D. Hausenloy (UK), M. Galagoudza (Russia) and  A. Konrady (Russia). Professor A. Konrady and Professor M. Rostrup (Norway) were co- chairmen at the poster session on “Neurogenic mechanisms”.

Hypertension creates an interest over a broad range of medical specialties from family medicine and general practice to the specialist fields of cardiology, nephrology and endocrinology and further to physiology and pharmacology. But also young scientists paid special attention to the lecture of Professor L. Lindholm (Sweden) “Meet the expert: Write a paper and get it into a good medical journal”.
