3rd Russian Scientific Conference “Noncoronary Heart Diseases: Diagnostics, Treatment and Prevention”, 15-16 September 2011

      On 15-16 September 2011 3rd Russian Scientific Conference with International Participation “Noncoronary Heart Diseases: Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention” was held in Almazov Federal Centre.

     The conference attracted more then 1000 people. Among them – young specialists, Almazov Federal Centre’s personnel, well-known scientists: cardiologists, physicians, cardiac surgeons, neurologists.   

     The conference focused on current modernization issues of high-tech medical care delivery to patients with noncoronary heart diseases, working out new technologies for diagnosis and treatment of primary and secondary cardiomyopathy, implementation of novel medical technologies. The conference aimed to review the current achievements and outline a way to further development of this medicine field.  

     The conference received greeting from Deputy Minister of Healthcare and Social Development Veronika Skvortsova.

     Speaking about the plenary session held on the first day 4 lectures were presented on it. Director of the Centre Eugene V. Shlyakhto opened the session. First of all, he welcomed the conferees, and then emphasized that with the growth of noncoronary diseases incidences and development of new treatment methods carrying out such conferences enable participants to get acquainted with the novel developments, improve their knowledge, foster effective experience exchange between specialists of different countries, and contribute to the advancement of medical care.
     In continuation Vice-President of the European Society of Cardiology Professor A. Torbicki presented a lecture, “Treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension in Eastern Europe: achievements and problems”.
 

  

            The lecture by the Chairperson for Working Group of Basic Science in Finnish Cardiac Society, Professor T. Helio also attracted great interest among the audience. Professor Helio covered a topic of genetic counselling in patients with cardiomyopathies. Currently Almazov Federal Centre is one of the leading institutions where genetic counselling is applied.

            In conclusion, head of therapy faculty in the Russian State Medical University (RSMU) Professor G.P. Arytyunov presented new guidelines on treatment of patients with inflammatory heart diseases.

Closely connected to the conference programme a pharmaceutical exhibition was arranged in the Center lobby.

Within the framework of the conference, a poster session was organized where 24 posters on treatment, diagnosis and prevention of noncoronary diseases were presented.  

  

     Gala dinner was held on 15 September. This evening the apartments of the Yusupov family were hospitably opened to the Russian and foreign guests in the Yusupov Palace. In the miniature home theatre a concert of classical music was organized where greetings of the organizing committee members and guests were extended.   

  

 

Based on the results of the conference one could easily follow the main idea – Russian medicine is significant, open to collaboration and has considerable potential for further advance. It is due to the strong material and technical base and vast scientific capabilities.
