National Prize in Cardiology “Purple Heart”

On 19 May, 2011 in Moscow in the Pushkin State Museum III competition winners award of National Prize in cardiology “Purple Heart” was held. Before the ceremony a welcome message of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was presented where he showed confidence that laureate mastership, their aspiration to achieve breakthrough results will set the pattern for colleagues.
National Prize Organizers following state healthcare policy constantly contributes into development of incentive idea among professionals in cardiovascular diseases treatment. This year, for example, a new direction – cardiology was introduced where doctors of this specialty were acknowledged. As a result an interest among cardiologists to the competition has increased. This was shown by increased number of the participants: in 2011 it was two times higher than in the previous year.
Besides, the group of judging board is constantly enlarging. This year 52 leading Russian cardiologists and cardiac surgeons entered the judging group including main cardiac surgeon of Almazov Centre Mikhail Gordeev. Without their best practices and professionalism it will be impossible to evaluate the work of nominees and determine the winners. Strict judging board gave highest marks only to 14 competition participants. By tradition laureates got a diploma and a luxurious watch that became Prize symbols standing for “Heart is beating like a watch”.
